2016 Professional Development Institute
call for presenters!

Educators (and politicians!) have been discussing school reform and standardization for years. Programs come and go; yet, some things never change. One of the timeless characteristics of our profession as English teachers is that we cannot teach literature without also addressing ethical and moral issues. Who could teach THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN, HAMLET, THE HUNGER GAMES, or “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” without a discussion of morality and good vs. evil? Literary classic or young adult novel, fiction or nonfiction, drama or poetry – a close read of any text requires attention to ethics -- and invites moral growth. Best practices and great teaching ideas also stand the tests of time and trends. We invite you to share your best teaching practices at our conference next fall. What is your go-to lesson for teaching writing? What strategy always works for you (and your students) when you tackle a complex text? Share what you DO WELL with others – that is, after, what professional development is all about. Teachers have long known that part of their job is to DO GOOD in the world. Despite headlines of popular news magazines, the majority of us also DO WELL at this most noble of professions. We thank you for helping to deepen our understanding of this topic by submitting a proposal to present at FCTE's PDI 2015.
